So, you're planning your trip to the Alabama beaches and researching things to do... Or maybe you're already down at the coast and curious if shark-fishing is an option. Generally speaking, fish are more active and easier to catch when the water is relatively warm. As you might have guessed, the Gulf of Mexico is at its warmest during the summer months, which makes summer a great time to try hooking many species of fish, including sharks. But the good news is that you can still catch sharks (and so many other beautiful and delicious fish) long after the peak summer season. Our coastal waters stay pleasantly warm much longer than you might expect, keeping the fish active and easy to catch for months.
Some might say that autumn is actually the best time of year to fish on the Gulf Coast. Why is that? Well, for one thing, the weather is gorgeous down here, this time of year. People love going to the beach on a hot, sunny day in summer, but let's be honest: Sometimes that July and August heat and humidity can be a bit much! If you prefer slightly cooler, drier air, fall is perfect—plenty warm enough that you won't need bulky layers, yet without that oppressive humidity that is typical of a Southern summer.
Another benefit to deep sea fishing in autumn is that most of the tourists have gone home by mid-September or October. Once kids are heading back to school and summer ends, there are fewer people fishing. That means you have less competition for those bigger fish, which is always a good thing! Shark Charter Fishing in Coastal Alabama
In these waters off the coast of Alabama, there are several species of shark, including bull sharks, great hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks, nurse sharks, lemon sharks, blacktip sharks, and sandbar sharks. We tend to hook large bull sharks more often than other species. The bull sharks we catch average between 100 and 200 pounds, but we've also caught some even more impressive specimens: One tipped the scales at over 350 pounds! But don't worry, we'll be right there the whole time to provide coaching and hands-on help in case you need it. Reeling in a shark can be a physically demanding experience, and often multiple people will take a turn in bringing in a single shark. (Like we said, it's something you'll probably be talking about for a while!)
Shark Fishing for Large Groups in Gulf Shores, AL
Do you have a larger group of more than six people? Many charter boats in the area are limited to hosting six or fewer at a time, but we're able to comfortably and safely accommodate groups of up to 18 people! We have five boats in total, each carefully maintained for your safety and enjoyment. If you're fishing solo or have a group of six of fewer, you can charter the Bollweevil or the Water Dog—both ideal for smaller groups. For groups of 7 or more, we can host you on Fairwater II, Tradewinds, or South Wind, our three vessels capable of accommodating up to 18 people at one time. (There is an extra 10% fee per additional person in groups of more than ten people.) With so many options available, we're confident we can find the perfect fit for your group of family or friends.
